As we have discussed before, Greater Columbus made a decision to move from having EMT's at the games, to providing Athletic Trainers at each game.  AT's have broader qualifications to diagnose injury and have specific training in concussion recognition.  Part of the program that was voted in, is offered by Ohio Health and is outlined below.  This base line testing is an important step forward in the treatment of concussions as it provides the medical community with important data for each individual player.

It is strongly encouraged by the GCHSCHL Board that your players be tested prior to the start of the new hockey season.

OhioHealth has tested over 4,000 athletes since the program has been started.

At the 2011 USA Hockey Annual Meeting, the board of directors voted on 173 rule proposals.  The board of USA Hockey passed 32 new playing rule changes that will go into affect this season for the youth and 18 new playing rule changes for the junior age groups.   Two major changes that will take affect are the tag-up offside's rule to the Bantam and older age groups, and the elimination of body checking in the Peewee and younger groups.
